Networking has a different meaning for everyone. For women entering the job search after relocating to Japan, trying to change careers, or just simply looking to make a new group of friends or business connections in a new city, networking is often synonymous with anxiety yet is something that goes hand in hand with thriving both professionally and personally.

With the arrival of the new FEW year there is no better time to change your mindset and learn how to network on your own terms. Join us for an interactive workshop with Helen Iwata, Founder of Sasuga! Communications, to learn about the benefits of networking, and gain insights, practical tips and strategies for connecting with confidence, conviction and purpose in a way that everybody feels good about it.

In this session you will learn:

  • What is networking (and what not)?
  • Conversation strategies (through interactive activities)
  • How to develop a game plan for networking that works for you (inlcuding purposeful actions to take after the event)
  • Tips for mentally and emotionally preparing so you feel a little bit more comfortable at FEW meetings, other networking events or when walking into a room full of strangers
  • How to ask for support and give support to others as a member of a community of connectors

Who can benefit?

  • Individuals who find networking challenging
  • Introverts that struggle with group settings
  • Extroverts are happy talking with people, but still feel they’re missing something in networking
  • Individuals new to Japan and who are just starting to create a personal and professional network

About HelHelen Iwata Profile Photoen Iwata

Helen Iwata is a Yorkshire lass who has worked in Japan for over 25 years and networked with a LOT of people during that time! As manager of client communications at McKinsey & Company in Tokyo, she coached and trained consultants and clients in communication skills, including presentations, meeting facilitation, leadership, and teamwork. In 2013, Helen left McKinsey and established her own business the next day.

Now, through Sasuga Communications K. K., she helps people to communicate with more clarity and confidence, so that they enjoy greater success and happiness. Helen is the go-to girl for multiple multinationals to design and deliver their in-house training programs and one-on-one coaching. She also runs courses at her office in Ginza and offers online coaching.

In addition to being a TEDx speaker, author of 英語の仕事術 (Eigo no Shigoto-jutsu), and a Nikkei Style monthly columnist, Helen is rather proud of occasionally baking scones for her husband and daughter.
