One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Join us for the last meeting of the current FEW year as we hear from Melanie Uematsu, a tailor, on women’s love-hate relationship with the fashion industry, why one style doesn’t fit all, and how we can solve this issue as individual consumers.

Thursday July 13th / 19:00 - 22:00 / Members ¥2000 (Associates ¥1500) / Non-members (Women only) ¥5000 / Students and Interns (Women only) ¥3000 (includes light buffet and beverages)

We are the masters of our fate and our soul: we decide who we are, what we eat, how we want to live, what music we listen to, who our friends are, and when and how we work. We ask ourselves many questions before making big investments, subscribing to services, or choosing the best education for our children.

But when it comes to clothing, we end up buying the same clothing and accessories from similar fashion retailers around the globe. Often, these clothes don’t fit right or we don’t like the material, color, or style— but we buy them because they are fashionable or have a certain image and label. Why does the fashion industry have such power to dictate our clothing and style? And why do we let it dictate us, even though we often aren’t satisfied?

Join us for the last meeting of the current FEW year as we hear from Melanie Uematsu, a tailor, on women’s love-hate relationship with the fashion industry, why one style doesn’t fit all, and how we can solve this issue as individual consumers.

We’ll also be announcing the FEW Japan Board elect for 2017-2018 and farewelling some of the current directors who will be going on to new ventures. The evening will be a great opportunity to toast to another successful year gone by and network with fellow members and guests before we break for summer.
