Sachiko Maruyama – Challenge Yourself and Enjoy the Ride

Join us at our October 11th gathering to hear Sachiko Maruyama share her story of stretching boundaries and challenging herself in creating new businesses – and moving abroad to Malaysia – just to make everything a little bit more interesting!

Thursday October 11th / 19:00 - 22:00 / FEW Members ¥2,000, Associates ¥1,500 JPY / Guests ¥5,000, Non-Member Students (ID required) & Interns ¥3,000 (incl. salad/finger food buffet, soft drinks and wine)

Stretching yourself and building a life in a foreign country are challenges that all FEW members know a little bit about – and they are challenges that Global Women’s Association (GWA) founder and a serial entrepreneur Sachiko Maruyama knows a lot about.

Maruyama started her career at an established Japanese company in Tokyo in the 1980s. However, she quickly realized she wanted more challenges than the conservative atmosphere in Japan could offer, so she moved to West Germany and trained to become a German–Japanese translator. Upon returning to Japan, she qualified as a tax accountant and set up her own firm – only to found an IT company later.

This was when Maruyama realized that she wanted to find a connection with other women with experience of living and working abroad. She created GWA as a network for globally minded Japanese women around the world to support both their personal and professional growth, as well as to mentor and raise Japan’s next generation of pioneering women. Currently, GWA hosts annual Global Women’s Summits, speech contests for university students in Kanto and Kansai, and facilitates international internships for young women.

Perhaps because of the strengthening global connection, after creating GWA, Maruyama realized she needed to experience living abroad once more so she moved to Malaysia and launched yet another company!

Maruyama has worked in many different professions, but one common thread connects her global adventures: a commitment to constantly challenging herself.

Join us for a rare chance to hear this bold Japanese woman speak about the magical fun of stretching yourself and of the power of connection beyond borders.
