Maxine Van-Cliffe ArakawaMaxine Van-Cliffe Arakawa has had a long and varied career in Japan as a creative director, event producer, TV journalist, and ‘Fairy Godmother’, amongst many other things. She worked in New York in her 20s as a make-up artist, collaborated with Diana Vreeland and Irving Penn, and then met her Japanese husband. In the last 30 plus years she has been active in a wide range of creative projects in Japan in the fashion, music and entertainment industries.

But with the intensity of work in all these high-pressure fields, Maxine developed a depressive disorder, leading to a nervous breakdown. Hear her story about how she found ways to live with this, and still continue her career.

Her talk will touch on issues such as how to prioritize your body and mind above all else and get the support that you need, seeing adversity as an opportunity, and understanding how to treat yourself well.
