P2P Session 3 Claim Your Tech

Sat Feb 17 2024 | 10:00AM - 12:00PM (JST)

Online event

This event is open to FEW members only.

What we’ll be doing

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by tech? It seems like every day, there is a new program, app, or update. These tools are designed to make our lives easier, but sometimes it feels like you`ll never be able to catch up and learn or implement these resources.

Tracey Northcott, a seasoned tech entrepreneur with multiple businesses, and Aidan Fournier, a full-stack developer, who recently launched her own business, will lead us through this session.

Tracey is going to show us how to use Chat GPT in our daily lives to help us personally and professionally. Whether you own a business, need to write a business or marketing plan, create contracts, and social media posts, or update your resume, this powerful tool can aid you in reaching your goals. Tracey will show us, with real-life examples, how to go from a blank page to smooth content creation and take control of your messaging.

Aidan will share about her journey from English teacher in Japan to full-stack developer who recently started her own business. Her untraditional path will inspire you to consider other options for yourself or elevate yourself in your current field.

Networking is an essential part of being in business and growing a business. Many in Japan still use traditional business cards. Aidan will guide us through a fun, creative process where we design our own digital business cards. It will have a QR code that links to our profiles, portfolios, websites, or social media pages, conveniently having everything accessible and in one place.

You will walk away from this workshop feeling more confident and with new skills that you can use immediately. Join us for a morning of connecting and learning with other women.

December 16th 2023 @ 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (JST) (Lounge opens at 9:45 am)

What we did:

FEW’s December Peer to Peer session was facilitated by Rachel Ferguson, a Communications Coach who founded The Communications Concierge. In this workshop, we learned to harness the power of our hidden resumes. First, we reviewed our professional resumes and acknowledged our education, work experience, qualifications, and achievements. Then we focused on our second resumes and listed some of our life experiences, learnings, relationships, challenges, and motivations. Our professional resumes showcase our skills and talents, and what we can offer to a company or client. The second resume shows authenticity, honesty, and empathy for others and their experiences. Both resumes are true and the second can enhance the first.

Hidden Resume Process

  • List jobs and experiences that do not appear on your formal resume
  • List skills and qualities that were not featured on your CV before

Sample questions that you can ask yourself in the Hidden Resume process

  • What did I gain from these experiences?
  • When and where can I use personal elements of my hidden resume?
  • Can we be personal and even vulnerable while maintaining strength and professionalism?

Key Takeaways

  • Reframe all our experiences to be sources of individual strength and unique insight
  • Acknowledge and embrace our past (even dodgy) experiences to enhance our present gifts
  • Weave our history to our present and draw out the consistency across our life’s work

September 21st @ 19:15 PM – 20:45 PM (JST)

Let’s learn how some small changes to your eating, body conditioning and sleep can noticeably change your current and future health.

As we enter the fall and winter months, our stress from readjusting to pre-pandemic social and work lifestyles may start to exhibit itself in our health. Zoé Kanzawa and Chloe Bomberger are a holistic nutritionist and a doctor specialising in holistic rehabilitation, respectively. They will share some uncomplicated strategic advice to help us show up for ourselves in healthy ways and manage our personal wellbeing via simple dietary and lifestyle adjustments.

Minor mindset changes can have a big impact on our health. Not everyone has time for the gym or cooking well-balanced meals. When we talk about health and wellbeing, we often immediately think about the things that we can’t do. Chloe and Zoé are here to help us readjust our focus to working with ourselves, within our means, personality and environment.

This discussion aims to offer a fresh outlook, showing how we can take a holistic approach to our symptoms and assess our lifestyles for meaningful, long-term transformations. Our goal is for every member to embrace their own journey towards enhanced well-being with a sense of empowerment and possibility.

Meet the Speakers:

Dr. Chloe Bomberger is a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), and has spent her career helping people with physical disabilities, pain, and other physical difficulties regain function and improve their quality of life.

After graduating from medical school at the University of Pittsburgh she served as a flight surgeon in the United States Navy before pursuing specialty training in PM&R in North Carolina, where she practiced for 14 years before deciding to move to Japan in 2022.  Living in Japan was a life dream for her and her husband, and she is currently learning Japanese while living in Tokyo.  She believes that movement is an essential component of a healthy and happy life, and is interested in ways to make movement accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable for everyone. Her interests include hiking, strength training, Japanese language and culture, cooking, and knitting.

Passionate about empowering individuals to take charge of their health and well-being, Zoé Kanzawa is a dedicated Functional Medicine Health Coach with a mission to guide you on a transformative journey towards optimal vitality.

With a background in yoga, Thai yoga bodywork, ayurveda and functional medicine, Zoé combines scientific knowledge with a holistic approach to wellness, focusing on the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. Through personalised guidance, actionable steps, and ongoing support, she empowers you to make informed decisions and cultivate sustainable habits that lead to a vibrant and fulfilling life.

Sip, Savor, and Sake: Delight in a Sip-Filled Adventure and Uncover the Secrets of Japan’s Beloved Beverage!

June brings the rainy season to Japan which promises that the summer is just around the corner. June also is the end of the FEW year. This year we want to slide into summer with a relaxed social. Interact with our diverse membership from all over Japan and connect with your board, in particular, our Vice President and sake expert, Kyoko Nagano.

We are planning a relaxed and fun evening with social fun and sake testing and discovery. Get to know each other on a deeper level or just hang out and have a laugh. Bring your beverages of choice and make it a real party.

This year Summer Social will feature « special Q&A with our own in-house sake expert, Vice President Kyoko Nagano ». There are no official speakers – it is you, our members, who are the stars of this event.

Kyoko is a Japanese national who was born in Seoul, South Korea, raised in Jeddah Saudi Arabia and in the United States. She worked at ITOCHU Corporation, UBS, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, AIG and MetLife but as a trailing spouse, she had to give up her corporate career and lived in California for 2 and a half years and in Thailand for 5 years with her family as a housewife and a mother of 2 kids.

Ever since she came back to Japan, her passion to introduce Japanese culture and to support struggling sake breweries led her to launch two businesses in 2018 and one company in 2019 and she was recently interviewed by Savvy Tokyo here.

She has been serving as a board member since 2018, currently in Vice President role and she also volunteering at InterNations as an Ambassador.

December 10th @ 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (JST)

What is the P2P (Peer-to-Peer) Program?

This program is a unique opportunity for FEW Members to learn, thrive, and connect with each other. Whether you are growing your business, looking to optimize your experience in a current position, or are interested in creating effective strategies to change your career, or pivot into new projects, P2P will be an asset for you.

Who Will Benefit from Joining P2P?

In Session 2, we will be learning to navigate our emotions and claim our voices. Have you ever had issues with self-esteem or felt imposter syndrome around your business or career?

We will learn about the nature and purpose of emotions, and some powerful strategies for processing them. Through a mini-guided session, we will revisit past experiences that created emotional blocks and beliefs, learn to transform and harness them for self-empowerment, and reclaim our voice.

We will take time to rediscover the rich complexity and beauty of our full individuality and unique voice through a guided diversity-mapping activity. We will walk away with a fresh take on all the creativity of our diversity empowering us to contribute our unique voices into the world.

Blending the insights and expertise of our two guest speakers, we will leverage our unique experiences with adversity, and learn to mobilize our lived experience towards empowered allyship with ourselves and with others we care about.

Your Hosts for FEW Japan Peer-to-Peer Events

FEW Membership Directors Tiffany Rossdale and Christine Brown will be your hosts along with facilitators, Dr. Mira Simic-Yamashita and Dr. Jackie F. Steele.

What we’ll be doing

Dr. Mira Simic-Yamashita will teach about emotions and how to navigate them. She`ll lead us through a mini-guided session to discover a limiting belief and how to transform it. Then we will have a chance to discuss our experiences and ask questions.

Next, Dr. Jackie Steele, will lead us through a self-to-systems diversities mapping exercise to help us reveal all our social vulnerabilities and superpowers. She will guide us in understanding how our complex societal positioning and vulnerabilities can be reclaimed to empower our voice, allied collaboration and innovation.

In small breakout groups, and large group discussion we will bring the learning together to discuss and start leveraging these insights across our emotional and social strengths to foster holistic wellbeing.
